Injection Molding Services

Da/Pro Rubber's injection molding services include both plastic and liquid silicone rubber ( LSR ) injection molding. Plastic injection molding involves a thermoplastic process where the raw material in pellet form is heated then pushed through a heated barrel where it is melted. The melted material is forced through a nozzle into a mold cavity or a runner system. The cavity is created in the shape of the desired component until it is cooled enough to retain its shape. The mold opens, the part ejects and the process starts over.

Liquid silicone rubber ( LSR ) is also molded using an injection molding process. This process is a thermoset process where liquid silicone material is supplied through an injection nozzle. The liquid silicone rubber is mixed in line with the curing agents and is injected into the mold cavity using a cold runner to prevent adhesion to the screw. The liquid silicone enters the cavity of the mold and fills the predefined shape. Under heat and pressure, the rubber cures. The part is then ejected from the cavity and the LIM molding cycle restarts.
